“Bringing Home the Wishing Rock”
Is there a Chinuk Wawa tie-in to this cool public sculpture in Spokane?
“Bringing Home the Wishing Rock” is by Seattle sculptor John T. Young.
I walk by it frequently, and wonder if it could be a wistful commentary on the destruction by Whites of the ancient Hee Hee Stone (‘laughing rock’), near Chesaw in northeast Washington.
I’ve written about that former landmark — a.k.a. the Tee-Hee-Hee Stone — and its probable Chinuk Wawa name in a previous article here.
I haven’t been able to learn yet about the artist’s intentions, but I’ve been wanting to share this neat creation with you.
