Buy now for only $18,000! Autograph manuscript Chinook vocabulary, attributed to Dr. Joseph B. Brown, a surgeon in the 9th U.S. Infantry stationed at Fort Dalles on the Columbia River in Oregon Territory
I understand that that’s the Canadian price. But I have many other questions.
Was this just hand-copied from a published book, as so many items of its time were?
In that case, it’s worth far less than $18,000 Canadian/$13,000 American.
On the other hand, if it’s a real document of frontier-era Chinuk Wawa from The Dalles, Oregon, it’s priceless.
Do you reckon the seller would provide images of the full contents, for us learners and researchers?
Dr Brown was apparently a bit of a visual artist, according to sources such as Yale University.
Here is a biography of him.
My thanks to Alex Code for flagging this item.
𛰅𛱁𛰃𛱂 𛰙𛱁𛱆𛰅𛱁 𛰃𛱄𛰙𛰃𛱄𛰙? qʰáta mayka tə́mtəm? kata maika tumtum? Qu’en penses-tu? What do you think?
And can you say it in Chinuk Wawa?
