Here’s a death notice for one such interpreter, who had evidently served in the late frontier era of British Columbia.

Died Nov, 1896 at Colorado Spngs, CO, Thomas D Lindsay, for several yrs w/Victoria city police force and Chinook interpreter in the Victoria criminal courts. Aged 30+, leaves widow, several children, and bros who reside in Saanich and Lulu Island farming dists.
