Free download! “Thompson River Salish Dictionary”

Thanks to “Lyttonites” on Facebook.

The “Thompson River Salish Dictionary” by Thompson & Thompson is freely downloadable at UBC’s library site.

It’s an enormous download, so even with a decent connection it may take a while.

But it’s worth it.

There’s a pretty good amount of Northern Chinook Jargon in there, if you figure out how to look for it — for example, the evidence that there was a CJ phrase ti-man for the railroad employee who brought drinks during your work shift.

And you’ll also get an idea what southern interior BC’s Nɬeʔképmx Salish language is like.

𛰅𛱁‌𛰃𛱂 𛰙𛱁𛱆‌𛰅𛱁 𛰃𛱄𛰙‌𛰃𛱄𛰙? qʰáta mayka tə́mtəm? kata maika tumtum?  Qu’en penses-tu?  What do you think?

And can you say it in Chinuk Wawa?
