Michael Brophy’s series of paintings, “The Chinook Jargon”

“The Clear Cut Future” book is a collection of visual art, poetry, prose. (Astoria, OR: The Clear Cut Press, 2003.)

One of the contributors is the painter Michael Brophy, with selections from his series of gouaches, “The Chinook Jargon”.

Its theme, inspired by this unique regional language, is the historical trajectory of the Pacific Northwest from the earliest contacts between Native and European-descended people to the present.

Another collection of his paintings has been published: “Here There Nowhere: Paintings by Michael Brophy“.

Bonus fact:

The layout and cover art of “The Clear Cut Future” were done by an acquaintance of mine from New York City days, the highly talented Tae Won Yu.
