‘Even if…’ is “kultus poos…”

The very Indigenous word kultus is a lever that we use heavily in Chinook Jargon.

As a descriptive word, it can mean “worthless”, “useless”, “no-good”.

But phrases starting with kultus poos… (which is kʰə́ltəs pus… in Grand Ronde style) have the special meaning of “doesn’t matter if…” / “doesn’t matter whether…” / “I don’t care if…”

And, in Just Folks English, that’s “even if…”

So we can get a start on translating the great Washington state rock album title, “Even If and Especially When”!
