1925, BC: Hiuskookum Fish Meal!

Another case of Chinook Jargon spotted in the wild.

Thanks to our reader Alex Code.

Hiuskookum” brand fish meal!

Hiuskookum sounds to me like typical Settler use of Chinuk Wawa, making haiyoo (hayu) mean “very”, and making skookum (skukum) mean “excellent”.

In other folks’ normal Jargon, the phrase would sound like “lots of strong things” or “lots of monsters” 😁

𛰅𛱁‌𛰃𛱂 𛰙𛱁𛱆‌𛰅𛱁 𛰃𛱄𛰙‌𛰃𛱄𛰙? qʰáta mayka tə́mtəm? kata maika tumtum?  Qu’en penses-tu?  What do you think?
And can you say it in Chinuk Wawa?
