AUDIO
It’s historically been hard to find audio recordings of Chinook Jargon/Chinuk Wawa.
But they’re really useful when you do get to hear them!
So I’ll keep an expanding list of links here to audio of “the Jargon”.
You should also check my “VIDEO” page for more!
- David Robertson’s “The Chinook Jargon We Never Knew–But Will” on CIHR Roundhouse Radio’s “Public Podium”.
- Early Ellensburg settlers talking Chinook. (Read my blog post about it.)
- Myrtle Woodcock recorded in 1952 by Leon Metcalf.
- A lady from British Columbia interviewed by Imbert Orchard. (Read my blog post about it.)
- Andy Brown (Ahtna Athabaskan, Alaska) sings a Chinook Jargon drinking song. (Read my blog post about it.)
- Fort Vancouver mobile app, with audio, video and more. (Read my blog post about it.)
- Cornelius Kelleher recalls the words of Father Fouquet. (Read my blog post about it.)
Great site! Odd i found it so late…
Here in Lynnwood WA, would love to get together with anyone nearby interested in Chinook wawa conversation.
In the meantime, it appears many of the links are dead in your audio section, so I thought I might point it out.
Thanks again, keep up the good work!

hayu masi for visiting, Kenneth, I hope other Lynnwooders are reading this! I can also recommend the large Facebook “Chinook Jargon” group as a handy way to find fellow travelers.

Do you know where I might download and listen to an hour or more of well-spoken chinook wawa?

In a single recording? I have doubts. Can I ask what your purpose is? — Maybe I can figure out a workaround.
