Chinook Jargon and Asian immigrants, at Ricepaper magazine’s blog

Judith Ichisaka‘s good popular article in Ricepaper magazine, about Chinook Jargon with special emphasis on Asian immigrants, also got posted by Elliot Chan at that publication’s blog.

It’s titled just plain “Chinook Jargon”.  A good job is done of discussing both Japanese and Chinese immigrants in BC.

(It’s tagged as “Chanook Jargon” at the blog if you ever use their search feature.)

You might also enjoy last winter’s CBC Radio 1 – Vancouver miniseries “The Red Peony” on Asian and Aboriginal interactions.

I was interviewed as background for that, and wound up learning plenty (for example about Fred Wah)–the hallmark of a fine research staff.
