“lost” from Joe Peter, repeatedly, has implications that aren’t lost on us
Lost is a word of Chinook Jargon not only in the Northern Dialect (where it’s quite widely used), but also the older Central Dialect.
Joe Peter’s 1941 audio recordings of stories in Central Dialect have him saying lost for “lose; lost”.

That’s in lieu of the known synonyms such as t’sulu and t’sipi.
Due to its presence in 2 separate dialects, I wonder if lost might be an older word in Chinuk Wawa than we had realized.
Maybe it got left out of the old dictionaries, like so many other English-sourced CW words, due to its seeming to be obvious in meaning.
