Chinuk Wawa in our lives: Tanasbourne

One of our newer Zoom group participants, by living there, reminded me of a place I last mentioned to the Chinook Jargon world about 25 years ago:

Meet Tanasbourne, a neighborhood in Washington County, Oregon! It includes parts of Beaverton and Hillsboro, near Portland.

Lots of people who live there, even those with some awareness of Chinuk Wawa, don’t realize that this is tənəs- ‘little’, mashed up with “bourn(e)”, i.e. creek.

Definitely not a traditional old Chinook Jargon name 🙂

Now you know!

𛰅𛱁‌𛰃𛱂 𛰙𛱁𛱆‌𛰅𛱁 𛰃𛱄𛰙‌𛰃𛱄𛰙?
qʰáta mayka tə́mtəm?
kata maika tumtum?
Que penses-tu?
What do you think?
And can you say it in Chinuk Wawa?
