A dictionary used for the “Oregon Place Names” book

By chance I came across a copy of JK Gill’s well-known Chinook Jargon dictionary, with this autograph in it:

“Lewis A. McArthur
Portland”

This is at the Bancroft Library in California.

It’s the 1887 eleventh edition of Gill’s dictionary.

Looks like this is a dictionary (the dictionary?) that McArthur used in his excellent book on “Oregon Geographic Names”.

(See my series on it. It brought us a number of discoveries.)

ikta mayka chaku-kəmtəks?
Ikta maika chako-kumtuks?
What have you learned?
And, can you say it in Jargon?
