Chinook Jargon at the movies, Part 2: The Incredibles
It’s hard to track down a movie clip to illustrate this installment…
Because this comes from the Extra Features in a DVD my family used to own of “The Incredibles”.
[Here’s a link to all installments in this mini-series.]

I reckon there were some Canadians involved in making that wonderful animated feature film.
Because a deleted scene has one character talking about landing in the “skookum house”.
They pronounce it [‘skυkυm] house — which means they probably learned it from reading, not from hearing folks saying the phrase.
But I’ll take this as another entry in our file on Chinuk Wawa at the movies!

First Cow has a few scenes in Chinuk Wawa; Henry Zenk was a consultant. Another movie by the same director, Meek’s Cutoff, has a person speaking nimíipuu-wawa, but he uses some Jargon words like “basten-man.”
