“Chinook Spoken Here”

At the late Duane Pasco’s JayHawk Institute website, there’s a pretty great photo of him.

Here it is:

“Duane heats a crooked knife blade for bending in class.”

In the background, do you see his sign?

“Chinook Spoken Here.”

RIP to a fondly remembered important figure in revitalizing Chinook Jargon.

Bonus fact:

According to the JayHawk Institute site, there’s currently an exhibit at the Kitsap History Museum about “Trade of the Northwest Coast”, created in partnership with Duane and Betty Pasco. If so, go see it, you won’t be disappointed!
