1894: Some Chinook song or other
An Oregon “grange” meeting featured dinner entertainment in Chinuk Wawa, just after the frontier era, not far from Grand Ronde.
I sure wish we knew what “chinook song” this was! It could have been a hymn, some Native song that these Settlers had learned, or a translation of an existing popular American piece — just to name 3 commonly seen types.

…Dinner being announced the worthy
president declared a recess for the same.
The dinner hour being up, the worthy
president recalled the house to order.
Bro and Sister Walker favored the
council with a chinook song, which was
well applauded…
