1880: Meriar has her hair banged
Are you going to clattawa to the party?
Here’s an addition to our “Chinook invitations” files…with just one Jargon word, left untranslated.
Seems like “Meriar” is a folksy-on-purpose misspelling of “Maria(h)”, a female name that was usually pronounced as /maráya/ in those days.

If you want to have a splendid time, go to the sociable at Prof. Powell’s to-morrow night. And don’t forget that Meriar has her hair banged and is ready to clattawa with you.
