Page 6 is the source of both things I want to share today.
You might get some real use out of “aɬqi-pus” for ‘until’ — it’s kind of like saying ‘later when’. This comes up in the funny story of how Grand Ronde elder Rosetta “Frits” LaBonte Managan learned her own official name:
wik yaka kəmtəks ukuk aɬqi-pus yaka ɬatwa kʰapa skul! Rosetta yaka mama Esther yaka wawa yaka, “mayka nawitka yax̣al, Rosetta ukuk.”
‘She didn’t know this until she went to school! Rosetta’s mom Esther told her, “Your real name, that’s Rosetta.” ‘
In the northern dialect, ‘until’ typically gets expressed as pi q’úʔ kʰapa… (and arriving at…).
